Wetmore to Fowler -Day 28
Thanks again to Gayla and Kevin of Wetmore. Early start (for us:) out of Wetmore but we were barely a 1/4 mile out and Gene’s chain broke. Fortunately for us we had just started East on HWY 96 which happens to be a national cyclist route and we ran into part of a group of 15 riders from Adventure Cycling that were heading West. A special thanks to Brits David (Lancashire) and Jason (London) as they had a spare pin to fix the chain. We shared stories letting them know they were going to love Colorado and they let us know to watch the weather in Kansas. This group spent three hours in a cow ditch when a hail storm rolled thru Western Kansas.
It was a rough 27 mile ride to Pueblo for Gene (while his chain was temporarily fixed he still was in need of a new one). We turned both our bikes over to the professionals at Pueblo’s Great Divide Bike Shop. While the bikes were being tended to we headed to Gray’s Tavern “Home of the Big Slopper”. Now that we bike about 50 miles a day we can eat this kind of stuff! (1122 miles)
